BASIC INFO
Name: Valerius Theodore Nott. Val's common.
Age & Birthday: 29 / January 31 / Aquarius
Blood Status: Pureblood
Schooling: Hogwarts, Ravenclaw class of 2017, Ravenclaw keeper 2013-2017, Ravenclaw quid captain 2016-2017.
Occupation: Keeper for the Falmouth Falcons
Sexuality: Bisexual
Gender & Pronouns: He/Him

APPEARANCE
Height: 6'2"
Hair: Black
Eyes: Brown
Manner of Dress: Pseudo-formal. Hard to tell what the aesthetic he's trying to pull off is, exactly. He's a lot like the embodiment of all the strange, falling-into-disrepair pureblood mansions that litter the countryside. A little old fashioned, not well kempt, pushing off-putting.
General Vibes: He has that "consumptive chic" look of most English purebloods. Looks tired, or afflicted by a wasting disease, or like he just got punched in the gut, or all three.
Notable Features: Quidditch is a rough and tumble game, and he's got various scars to prove it. Most visibly he used to have an earring on his right ear but it got pulled out and left the lobe split.

PERSONALITY
Sarcastic Val's sense of humor is dry and understated, and definitely easy to mistake as him just being an asshole (which, to be fair, he also is). But you really shouldn't take just about anything he says seriously, because he is very rarely serious. Anything and everything in the world can be funny to him, and he'll make quips about his misfortunate just as soon as someone else's. It's definitely an acquired taste, but he clicks best with other people who share this same sardonic way of looking at the world.

Judgmental Pansy tried to teach her children not to judge people based on their blood status, and he doesn't. But he does judge people on being stupid dipshits, which everyone else here is a lot. He takes a lot of pride in watching other people do idiotic things and thinking to himself "I would never do that", even though he makes plenty of his own stupid decisions too.

Self-Sufficient His birth parents functionally left him to fend on his own as soon as he was no longer toddling, and while they did continue to quote unquote "take care of him" until he was seven, by the time they dropped him off at Pansy's he was more or less able to care for himself. He's still very reticent to ask anyone for anything; he'd rather suffer through a flu alone in misery than even ask his sisters to bring him soup. But if you never have to rely on anybody but yourself, you never have to be let down, and that's how he prefers it.

Quick-Witted Not outwardly apparent in his curiosity or particularly keen on learning or doing well in school, Val seems like a strange choice for Ravenclaw at first blush. But he's incredibly intelligent, even if he doesn't apply those smarts to academics. He's very socially adept, and is always looking for ways to turn conversations in his favor or trying to sniff out insecurities and secrets of other people. More than anything else in the world, he enjoys in engaging in witty repartee.

Detached Plenty of people might note that he seems fairly cold and unemotional to an outside observer, but the truth is that he's really not all that in touch with his own feelings at all. He's never attempted to do any kind of therapy (doesn't believe in it) but if he did he would absolutely flounder to answer questions like "and how did that make you feel?". He's very even-keeled, because he doesn't get riled up about just about anything. His very few berserk buttons are all related to his family, which is probably the one thing about him you shouldn't criticize. Anything else rolls off his back.

History:
Val's parents were Slytherin contemporaries of Harry Potter - they served on the Inquisitorial Squad, aspired to the small goals their parents set in place for them like marrying well and continuing the family name, and fully believe Voldemort would win the war. When he didn't, their lives quickly spiraled into misery and misfortunate, a fact that Val acknowledges but has very little sympathy for regardless.

Theo and Nerys got married straight after school, before the dust had even settled from the Battle of Hogwarts, and Val was born nine months later. For awhile his teenaged parents had fun playing house in the Nott's ancestral family home, especially as they were showered with praise for having a baby so young - and a boy, too, sure to continue the good Nott family name. But they quickly grew bored of it - doubly so once their older relatives began to suffer the consequences of supporting the Death Eaters during the war. Once grandma and grandpa were being arrested for collusion and Nerys had to watch the baby 24/7, she was over it.

So just a handful of years after he'd been born, they dumped him in the lap of their dear friend and new mother Pansy Parkinson, under the pretense that she was to babysit him while Nerys and Theodore went on holiday to Greece. A year later, they still hadn't come back to pick him up, and Pansy had more or less adopted him as her own. When they did come knocking on her door to get him, she told them to leave, and they offered very little resistance.

His life with the Parkinsons was not easy by any means, but it was better. Pansy was an attentive and affectionate mother, and did her best to raise her children (adoptive or otherwise) to be good people. Val is thankful for this, because even though they're all disillusion assholes, they aren't bought into the same purist cult mentality that landed the majority of his family in Azkaban. Plus, there was the farm, which Val genuinely enjoyed working on, and his adoptive sisters, who were more company than he'd ever had before in his life.

Heading to Hogwarts was exciting, though. From his very first year at the school, he was fascinated by Quidditch (something Pansy had never particularly cared for and didn't follow, and thus was a foreign experience to him), and resolved himself that he'd make the team as soon as he could. It took him a year longer than he expected, but he did make the team third year, and was captain in his seventh. Quidditch held the majority of his attention during his school years, but he did take a handful of NEWT level classes, earning his accreditations in herbology and potions among others.

After graduating, he was immediately drafted by a Quidditch team. He bounced around a couple different teams for a few years before ending up on the Falmouth Falcons, which is a good fit for his rough playstyle. He gets into way more physical scuffles than a keeper probably should - if anyone in the league was going to play the "keeper on the offensive" route, it was of course the Falcons. He's had a generally successful if not particularly ritzy career, winning the British league once and failing to make the national team in 2018. He intends to go out again in 2022, but knows that a few persistent injuries have probably put a hard sell-by date on him as a Quidditch player.

When he was invited to Henhurst Hall, his decision to move in was based largely on the fact that Aster said she was going to do it. He thinks it's a little weird, and can definitely afford to live on his own, but putting a ton of his former classmates into one building sounded like a good time to him. What he thinks constitutes "a good time" is the questionable part.
